Learn how to make your own kombucha, water kefir and beet kvass with guidance from the team of Old Tree Brewery.
The workshop will give you a theoretical understanding of these drinks as well as the hands-on practical knowledge of how to produce them yourself. We'll send you away with your very own kombucha SCOBY to get you started, an instructional handbook and the confidence to be the fermenter you were born to be!!
The workshop will start with a drinks tasting of all the seasonal specials at Old Tree Cafe and then a tour of our edible landscape / drink forest garden before the practical workshop where we will teach you the the production of these wonder drinks!
Kombucha is a fermented tea beverage that uses the help of a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) to produce beneficial compounds and bacteria's that aid digestion.
Water kefir uses a grain-like SCOBY to ferment a base of water and sugar, transforming the sugars into beneficial probiotic bacteria. Kefir is traditionally milk-based...this one isn't!
Beet Kvass is a lacto-fermented tonic made using the power of the mighty beetroot. For centuries it's been popular in Russia for it's healing properties. It is simple to make, sour and alive!
